Upset Over Proposed Ferry Tolls? Here’s Your Chance to Gripe!

GRANTSBORO – The Ferry Division within the North Carolina Department of Transportation will host a public listening session at Pamlico Community College’s Delamar Center on Wednesday, Sept. 2 from 6:00 to 8:00pm. This meeting is part of a series addressing a new state mandate to place tolls on all currently un-tolled NCDOT ferry routes by January 1, 2027.

Meeting Purpose: To gather public feedback and discuss implementation plans for the legislative tolling mandate, which also includes a proposed $150 annual pass for permanent residents of qualified coastal counties.

A similar outreach session way back in 2011 did not go well for state ferry officials when a large and sometimes boisterous crowd vented frustrations and objections to proposed ferry tolls, which were subsequently dropped entirely.
