WASHINGTON, DC – NC’s Third District Congressman Greg Murphy, who is a practicing physician, recently sent a letter to the Chief Executive Officer of NYU Langone Health, Dr. Robert Grossman, questioning a costly Super Bowl ad purchased by the nonprofit hospital.

The 30-second advertisement – estimated to cost $8 million – appeared during Super Bowl LIX. Despite recently posting substantial income, NYU Langone’s charity care expenses are reportedly less than half the national average of 2.6 percent.

Further, NYU Langone has sought to classify its New York City campus as a ‘Rural Referral Center’ under Medicare. This difficult-to-justify status is achieved through a legal loophole, allowing the hospital to receive both payments and benefits intended to support isolated rural hospitals, as well as special payments for urban hospitals.
