DOT Officials Love ‘Roundabouts’

Four planned for five-mile stretch in James City

Pinehurst’s notorious circle was the subject of a recent Wall Street Journal front page story

NEW BERN – A new traffic pattern will be implemented later this week as part of the improvements to U.S. 70 and surrounding roadways in James City.

On Friday afternoon, Sept. 8, the project’s first roundabout will open to traffic at Grantham Road off U.S. 70. The image above shows what the new roundabout will look like for travelers. The roundabout will connect Grantham Road to U.S. 70 service roads, replacing the former stop signs.

The Department of Transportation constructs roundabouts in an attempt to improve safety and traffic flow, although motorists in Pinehurst, NC have their doubts.
