DYLAN, age 13, a rising 9th grader, traveled to Oriental from Illinois with his mom, Lori and his dad, James to “Catch his Dream.” Dylan was born with a congenital heart defect that has required many surgeries.
The CATCH-A-DREAM Foundation provided this opportunity to Dylan. Catch-A-Dream Host Volunteer Hayden Simons escorted the family from Charlotte. Even during the sweltering heat, Capt. Jennings Rose of North State Guide Service LLC was able to help Dylan “Catch his Dream” by sinking a hook into a big, 45+-inch drum – what a day!!

Local caterer Mary Ellen Ham prepared an amazing dinner for everyone with a homemade showstopper chocolate cake. She even taught the family how to fry up a fish that Dylan caught. They loved the flavor and the special cooking lesson. Then came the Dedication Ceremony, held at Southern Sky Lodge. Hayden Simons, the Host Volunteer who traveled from Memphis Tennessee for Catch-A-Dream presented Dylan, his mother, and father with plaques and each received a Bible. In addition he presented Dylan with a beautiful throw that has the bible verse ISAIAH 40:31.
ABOUT Catch-A-Dream: Catch-A-Dream is a national, charitable, non-profit 501(c)(3) foundation, that provides once-in-a-lifetime dream hunting and fishing trips to children across the United States and Canada, age 6 to 18 who suffer from life-threatening illnesses.
BUSINESS & VALUES: Through these adventures, and exposure to outdoors-minded business people who care, the program instills in these children a message of encouragement at a time when they need to know that values of hope do indeed, exist.
Catch-A-Dream’s singular purpose is to provide consumptive outdoor experiences to fill the “gap” created when other WISH Foundations disallowed granting a child a wish that involves hunting or use of
“…firearms, hunting bows, or other hunting and/or sport-shooting equipment.”
MISSION:
The Catch-A-Dream mission is to provide not only the opportunity to “catch an outdoor dream,” but also, spiritual encouragement that is often so badly needed by these children and youth. It is this very message of Christian Hope, promised in Isaiah 40:31, that we seek to instill in these children and their families.
We can’t change the whole world, but we can change someone’s whole world for at least a short period!
