Young Pastor Embraced By Hometown

COVE CITY – In a brief telephone interview shortly after his Sunday morning sermon, Tanner Poplin’s enthusiasm, zest for life, and (of course) spirituality came through loud and clear. In just his mid-20s, Poplin has been pastor of Cove City Christian Church since August of this year. He readily admits his youth is a bit unusual for a minister who serves an established church – especially one in this small Craven County farming community where he grew up!

“Sometimes in bigger towns like Greenville, you will find pastors within a 10 to 15-year ballpark of my age, but it is not what you usually expect to see,” joked Poplin.

His congregation has been very supportive, but any significant changes will not come quickly. He will first learn the ropes, said Poplin, but concedes “it will be nice to grow our membership, and we are already seeing that with our Bible Study on Wednesday nights!”

The church bulletin prominently displays the young pastor’s cell number – 252 670-1759. Give him a call if he can help in any way!
