Vandemere man arrested for drugs following three-month investigation

On Friday, September 1, 2023, as part of an ongoing narcotics enforcement operation, The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on the residence of Anthony Cordell Curtis of Vandemere, NC following a three-month investigation related to the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics in Pamlico County. During the investigation, it was determined that Curtis was selling cocaine and other controlled substances from his home in Vandemere as well as other locations within Pamlico County.

During the execution of the warrant, Curtis was taken into custody without incident. During the search of his residence investigators located and seized a quantity of powder cocaine, 91 Hydrocodone tablets, a quantity of Marijuana, assorted drug paraphernalia, a sum of US currency, and a .38 caliber revolver.

Curtis has several previous convictions in Pamlico County Superior Court related to the sale, possession, and trafficking of illegal narcotics. Curtis was arrested and charged with the following crimes and placed into the Pamlico County Detention Center after his appearance before a magistrate who issued a $1,015,000.00 secured bond.

The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Craven County Sheriff’s Office executed an additional search warrant on the residence of Miquan Xavier Shepard, 40 of

Bayboro on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, related to the sales of illegal narcotics within Pamlico County. Investigators located and seized over 100 grams of powder and crack cocaine, marijuana, firearms, a large sum of US currency, and assorted drug paraphernalia. A portion of the cocaine was located concealed in a child “Winnie the Pooh” doll that had been converted to be used as a concealment device. The doll was in a child’s bedroom.

Shepard was arrested and charged with the following crimes and placed into the Pamlico County Detention Center under a 3,300,000.00 secured bond.

Shepard is currently out on a bond stemming from an arrest in Craven County related to the trafficking of heroin/Fentanyl where The Craven County Sheriff’s Office investigators and New Bern Police Department detectives executed a search warrant on his Craven County home and seized approximately 8 ounces of heroin, a firearm, and other narcotics related items.

This is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are expected for both suspects. Additional arrests are also expected. The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office is committed to investigating and arresting individuals involved in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics in our community.
