On Thursday, December 7, 2023, Pamlico County Sheriff’s deputies and Pamlico County EMS responded to a report of an unresponsive individual that had been located on a commercial fishing vessel docked at Garland Fulcher’s Seafood in Oriental, NC. Chris Eugene Boyd, 60, of Grantsboro, NC was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The resulting investigation and autopsy determined that Boyd died as a result of fentanyl toxicity/overdose.
As a result of the investigation three individuals were arrested and charged on July 2, 2024, for the sale and distribution of controlled substances that led to the overdose death of Boyd.
Caroline Curtis, 34, of Alliance, NC was arrested and charged with 1 count of Death by Distribution of Controlled Substances and placed into the Pamlico County Detention Center under a $600,000.00 secured bond, Justin Griffin, 32, also of Alliance, NC was arrested and charged with 1 count of Death by Distribution of a Controlled Substance and placed in the Pamlico County Detention Center under a $505,000.00 secured bond, and Gary Russell Paul, Jr., 55, also of Alliance, NC was arrested and charged with 1 count of Death by Distribution of a Controlled Substance and placed into the Pamlico County Detention Center under a $750,000.00 secured bond. All three individuals appeared in Pamlico County District Court this morning, July 3, 2024 for their initial appearances.
It is our goal to continue to arrest those responsible for distributing this poison to our families and friends in Pamlico County. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families that have and continue to be negatively affected by this type of behavior.
