Pamlico County, NC — August 10, 2026 — The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with a drug-related overdose death that occurred in Pamlico County in 2025.
On May 28, 2025, deputies with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence located at 81 Main Street in Stonewall, North Carolina, in reference to a death investigation.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the individual’s death was the result of a fentanyl-related overdose.
As the investigation continued, investigators developed information identifying 37-year-old Markeem Clark of Aurora as the individual who supplied the narcotics that ultimately contributed to the victim’s death. Warrants were subsequently obtained for Clark, who also had outstanding warrants from Beaufort County.
Due to the nature of the investigation and the efforts to locate Clark, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) was requested to assist with his apprehension through its Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.
On August 5, 2026, investigators and agents with the NCSBI, Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office, and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office located Clark in Beaufort County. Clark was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Pamlico County Detention Center.
Clark was subsequently served with a warrant charging him with Death by Distribution. He was also served with outstanding orders for arrest related to probation violations. Clark was initially held without bond. Following his first appearance in Pamlico County District Court, a $750,000 secured bond was set. Clark remains in custody at the Pamlico County Detention Center.
