On February 27, 2026, the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at 1445 Silverbrook Road, Oriental, North Carolina, in connection with an investigation into the sale of controlled substance from the residence.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators located multiple dogs on the property, as well as chickens and wild rabbits. It was apparent to investigators that several of the animals were malnourished and living in inadequate conditions. Many of the animals were secured on oversized chains without proper shelter or access to water. Dead animals were also discovered on the property.
Based on these findings, an additional search warrant was obtained for Felony Animal Cruelty. The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Pamlico County Animal Control, Craven County Animal Control, New Bern Animal Control, and Beaufort County Animal Control.
As a result of the investigation, a total of 42 dogs were seized from the property, along with other animals. All animals were removed to ensure their safety and to allow for proper veterinary evaluation and care.
Throughout the investigation, evidence of several wildlife violations was also discovered. The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission was contacted and subsequently executed a search warrant at the residence, collecting additional evidence with the assistance of the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office.

As a result of the investigation, Derrick Mozelle, age 68, of Oriental, was arrested and charged with the following:
• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule VI Controlled Substance
• Maintaining a Dwelling for the Sale of a Controlled Substance
• Felony Aid and Abet
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Five Counts of Cruelty to Animals
Two additional individuals residing at the residence currently have active warrants for arrest:
Dakeem Graig Mozelle, age 34, of Oriental, is wanted for:
• Trafficking Sch I Controlled Substance
• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, or Deliver Schedule VI Controlled Substance
• Exposing a Child to a Controlled Substance
• Maintaining a Dwelling for the Sale of a Controlled Substance
• Possession of Firearm by Convicted Felon
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Five Counts of Cruelty to Animals

Tiffany Sue Bond, age 30, of Oriental, is wanted for:
• Maintaining a Dwelling for the Sale of a Controlled Substance
• Exposing a Child to a Controlled Substance
• Felony Aid and Abet
All animals located on the property were seized. Additional charges are anticipated pending veterinary evaluation and the completion of the ongoing investigation.
