Police Investigate Shooting
On Friday, August 18, 2023, at 2:48 a.m., police responded to a 911 call in the 900 block of Elm Street regarding a subject outside with a gun. Officers arrived on scene and located Shontell T. Reed, a black male, 44 years-old, of New Bern, suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to CarolinaEast Medical Center and then transferred to ECU Health Medical Center and is currently in critical condition. Based on our early assessment of the evidence gathered and statements obtained, there are no known additional threats to the public at this time. New Bern Police investigators continue to gather more evidence into this case.
