NEW BERN – For the record, Republican Laurie Buckhout wears a lady’s 9 ½ shoe – but in this case, we are talking about white boots — which are a common sight in commercial fish houses throughout eastern North Carolina. The gift of foot gear came as a total surprise when Buckhout met Monday in New Bern with a group of advisors and campaign strategists that she calls her ‘kitchen cabinet.’
The two-hour session was a wide-ranging affair. One common theme is that the USA economy, especially that of the 20-plus counties in the First Congressional District, does best when federal regulations are minimized.
“The less government the better,” she said. “Regulations make us less competitive in a very competitive world,” later adding “I hate Big Government.”
Buckhout conceded that running against a Democrat incumbent is always difficult. However, the District has become much more Republican thanks to an aggressive ‘gerrymander’ by the state’s General Assembly.
“If we can get out the vote this fall, we will definitely win,” predicted Buckhout. For more information about her campaign, visit http://www.LaurieBuckhout.com.
