On 10/26/2023 Carteret County deputies arrested Jayden Chance Comer, 22, of 112 Bryan Blvd, Havelock and Joseph Brandon Giffin, 27, of 119 Hatcher Dr, Newport after breaking into two homes on Hatcher Drive in Riverwoods.

On Thursday at approximately 4:45pm deputies responded to a 911 call from one juvenile, age 10 and a one teen, age 18, hiding in a closet whispering that two men were inside their residence.

Deputies located both men just down the street and took them into custody. Deputies found two residences that were entered as the armed suspects were captured on home surveillance cameras.

Giffin and Comer were both charged with:

  • Two counts of Felony Breaking & Entering

  • Two counts of Felony Larceny

  • Two counts of Conspiracy to Commit B & E & L

  • One count of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

  • One count of Possessing a Concealed Handgun

  • One count of Injury to Real Property

Both men are being held in the Carteret County Jail. Both men have had their first court appearance and both bonds have been increased to $250K each.

Sheriff Asa Buck said both juveniles were extremely brave and did everything right by calling 911 and remaining hidden and quiet until deputies arrived.
