PAMLICO COUNTY – In an exciting development for homeschooling families in the area, a new hybrid Christian school is set to open its doors in September 2024. Grace Fellowship Academy aims to provide a unique educational experience that combines the flexibility of homeschooling with the benefits of a structured classroom environment. Those new to homeschooling will find encouragement and instructional guidance, while veteran homeschoolers will enjoy greater flexibility and academic support.

The hybrid, or “university,” model recognizes the unique and diverse needs of homeschooling families. Students attend classes on campus two days a week, allowing for collaboration, socialization, and hands-on learning experiences. The remaining days will be spent at home, where parents will follow the same curriculum, reinforce the lessons, and expand their child’s understanding of the subject matter. Parents are encouraged to incorporate additional materials that align with their family’s culture and values. All the while, parents maintain autonomy over their child’s education and benefit from professional guidance and support.

Located in the expansive fellowship hall of Oriental First Baptist Church, Grace Fellowship Academy is committed to providing a well-rounded education that emphasizes academic excellence and spiritual development. The curriculum integrates Christian teachings across all subjects and fosters a strong moral foundation in students. By intertwining faith and learning, the school aims to nurture character, critical thinking, and a love for knowledge.

In addition to core academics, Grace Fellowship Academy students will enjoy music, Bible classes, art, and community service programs. After school each day, families are encouraged to meet at the Oriental Mini Park to enjoy lunch and recess together with the GFA staff and faculty. The goal is to create not only a school community but a homeschool community at large.

The school is currently accepting enrollment applications for students in grades K-3. Grace Fellowship Academy is hosting its first open house on Saturday, February 3rd from 10:00am to 2:00pm at 605 Broad St. in Oriental. Families are invited to bring their children to tour the facility, enjoy learning activities, meet the board of directors, and learn more about the unique approach of Grace Fellowship Academy. Both public and private scholarship opportunities are available. Public scholarship submissions extend only through February.
