Former Atlantic resident charged in 2010 Salter Homicide

As a follow-up to the attached news release issued yesterday, Robert Eiskant is scheduled to arrive at the Carteret County Jail late Monday afternoon.   Mr. Eiskant has been scheduled for his first court appearance on Tuesday, January 9th between 10am and 11am.  Sheriff Asa Buck and District Attorney Scott Thomas will be available after the first appearance to speak with media at the courthouse.


On 01/04/2024 Deputies with the Charleston County South Carolina Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service arrested Robert Eiskant of Mount Pleasant, SC on a warrant obtained by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, 01/02/2024.

Eiskant, 68, of Mount Pleasant, SC faces charges for the 2010 murder of Johnathan “Johnny” Salter of Ross Lane in Atlantic. Salter, age 41 at the time of his death, was found deceased in his home the morning of December 11th, 2010, from two gunshot wounds.

In 2010 Robert Eiskant was residing on Core Sound Loop Road in Atlantic and was neighbors with Salter. The two got into an altercation just hours before Salter was found dead.

The Sheriffs Office would like to thank the Charleston County
Sheriffs Office, US Marshals Service, NC State Crime Lab, NC State Bureau of Investigation, and the Carteret County District Attorney’s Office for their assistance and collaboration on the case.

Eiskant is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center without bond awaiting extradition back to North Carolina where he will have his first court appearance.
