BAYBORO – Details remain sketchy about a call received by the Pamlico County Emergency Management (911) system that apparently prompted an immediate evacuation of students on the campus of the Bayboro high school.
No explosions and no injuries have been reported.
Chris Davis, Pamlico County Sheriff, told the County Compass that the call came in at approximately 10:15 am Tuesday, and he has been informed that three other school systems – West Carteret, Havelock, and “a school in Orange County” were similarly affected.
Davis said the State Bureau of Investigation has launched an immediate investigation. Davis added that the calls to the various school systems appeared to have been “Internet-generated or some type of spoof calls,” which might be more difficult to trace.
We expect to have further details later today.
