Arrests of two drug traffickers in Pamlico County

On the morning of March 18, 2022, at approximately 1:30 a.m. Pamlico County deputies were investigating a vehicle displaying a reported lost/stolen registration plate at a local convenance store.  During the investigation deputies encountered Akeim McCray, 26 of Angier, North Carolina, and Arthur Overton, 49 of Aurora, North Carolina.  While deputies were speaking with Overton a citizen made deputies aware that another individual was inside the store acting suspiciously.  

The second individual identified as Akeim McCray was encountered in the restroom attempting to conceal several items in a plastic bag behind the toilet.  Deputies located approximately 5 grams of heroin and approximately 22 grams of cocaine in the bag.  McCray and Overton were both arrested and charged with multiple narcotics violations and placed in the Pamlico County Detention Center under $500,000.00 secured bonds.  

McCray was charged with:

Trafficking in Heroin

 PWISD Sch II C/S (Cocaine)  

Possession of Marijuana


Overton was charged with:

Conspiracy to Traffic Heroin

Conspiracy to sell/deliver cocaine
