Sheriff’s Office releases information in Riverwoods Shooting
Sheriff’s officials are now releasing the name of the suspect shot by deputies late Sunday night. Jamie Joseph Marion, 38, of 172 Sheppard Cruise Dr, Newport was flown to ECU Health in Greenville where he remains in serious condition. Marion will face two charges of Assault on a Government Official upon his release from ECU. The SBI is currently investigating the incident.

PREVIOUS:
On 09/24/2023 Carteret County deputies responded to a “shots fired” call on Sheppard Cruise Dr, in the Riverwoods subdivision of Newport late Sunday evening. While deputies were investigating they located a man firing shotgun rounds in his yard. As officers tried to speak with the man he pointed the shotgun at deputies who opened fire and struck the man in the torso. The man, whose name is being temporarily withheld pending notification of family, has been transported to Carteret Heath Care in Morehead City and then flown to ECU Health (formerly Vidant) in Greenville by East Care where he is being treated for at least one gunshot wound.
The SBI has been notified and special agents are enroute to the scene. It is standard practice for the SBI to investigate all officer involved shootings in NC.
