Woman indicted in huge embezzlement case

Debra Annette Conway, 57, of New Bern, NC was indicted by the Pamlico County Grand Jury on October 11, 2021. She was indicted on two felony counts of Class C Embezzlement and four felony counts of Class H Embezzlement. The total amount of the funds alleged in the indictments to have been embezzled is $482,006.75. Conway was an employee of the Bay River Metropolitan Sewer District at the time of the alleged conduct which occurred from January 2013 – December 2020. Conway was served with the indictments and appeared before a Judge for conditions of her release to be set by the court. The conditions are as follows: $30,000 secured cash bond, $370,000 unsecured bond, not leave the State of NC, surrender her passport if she has one, not open any new lines of credit or access any current lines of credit. Her next court date is January 24, 2022 in Pamlico County Superior Court. The case is being prosecuted by the Office of District Attorney Scott Thomas and the NC Conference of District Attorneys Financial Crimes Unit.
