State-run prison in Bayboro reports assault on officer

BAYBORO – Tuesday, Aug. 8, investigators with the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported assault on a Detention Officer at the Pamlico Correctional Institute. The facility — on Bay City Road just north of Bayboro — is a medium security, state-run prison.

One officer was injured and transported to Carolina East Medial Center by ambulance for injuries sustained during the assault.


The officer was reportedly assaulted by a single inmate. The Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident and charges are pending. Further information regarding the charges and identity of the inmate will be released after the investigation is concluded.
