Skeletal remains recovered from Peletier

CARTERET COUNTY — Carteret County Deputies are investigating the remains of a skeleton found by deer hunters early on 10/27/2018. The remains were found in a heavily wooded area between Winsett Lane and Peletier Loop Road, Peletier, NC. Detectives and a county medical examiner processed the scene and collected the remains Saturday morning.

At the current time the remains are unable to be identified and investigators are unable to say if the skeleton is a male or female. Detectives have made contact with both the families of Kristen Bennett and Linwood Sanders who are currently the only two people missing from Carteret County. Kristen Bennett, 24, who went missing on 08/14/2018 and Linwood Sanders, a 49-year-old homeless person, who is from the Peletier area, and was reported missing on 09/20/2018. In the case of Kristen Bennett, her boyfriend Lewis “Trey” Branche III has been charged with her murder.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, 10/29/2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC. At the current time there is no further information to release.
