Newport men charged after stabbing

On 07/09/2017, Carteret County deputies arrested Joshua Barefoot, 31, of 136 Oscar Hill Rd, Newport after stabbing 36-year-old Brandon Hobbs in the leg just before 1:00pm Sunday outside Barefoot’s home.
Deputies said the two got into an argument over money resulting in a fistfight in which Barefoot pulled out a knife and stabbed Hobbs in the leg. Hobbs was able to get the knife away from Barefoot who also suffered a minor cut. Barefoot then retrieved a shotgun from his home and attempted to run after Hobbs who fled on foot down Roberts Rd. Barefoot then fired three rounds in the direction of Hobbs with one round hitting a home on Roberts Road.
Hobbs was transported to Carteret Heath Care for treatment and will face assault and trespass charges upon his release (prior jail photo shown).
Barefoot was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Going Armed to the Terror of the Public, and damage to personal property. Barefoot was placed in the Carteret County Jail under a $25,000.00 bond.
Both are scheduled for a court date of 08/23/2017.
