Mill Creek mother charged in child abuse case

 On Friday, 09/24/2021, Onslow County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Summer Lyane Stein, 26, of 150 Point Rd, Newport (in their county) following the issuance of two warrants from Carteret County.

On 09/19/2021, detectives responded to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City after Stein’s 4-year-old daughter was transported from her home in Mill Creek to the hospital. The child was suffering from a severe head injury and flown to Vidant Medical in Greenville.

Carteret County detectives have been investigating the case since the initial report from medical officials and have now charged the girl’s mother.

Stein has been charged with felony negligent child abuse resulting in serious physical injury and failing to report a crime against a child. She is currently being held in the Onslow County jail under a

$16,000.00 bond. Stein will be transported back to Carteret County for her first appearance and then held in the Carteret County jail.

Mill Creek man charged with assault on child

On Sunday, 09/19/2021 Carteret County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Matthew David Langley, 31, of 150 Point Road, in Newport for child abuse.

Late Sunday detectives responded to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City after a

four-year-old child was transported to that location by EMS. Detectives learned the child was suffering from a severe head injury and was flown to Vidant Medical.

Detective learned the child is the daughter of Langley’s girlfriend and were able to determine the injuries sustained by the child were not consistent with the story provided to investigators.

Langley was charged with one count of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury and held in the Carteret County jail under a $150,000.00 bond.
