DOVER – Mayor John Wetherington is on a crusade of sorts to boost this small town’s profile. Located in the far west corner of Craven County, “Dover is more like a bump on the map, than a corner,” jokes the 76-year-old. Earlier this year, Wetherington and other town residents spearheaded an impressive Veterans Memorial Park for a triangular plot located next to Lenny’s and VC Grill, which features delicious ‘turkey barbecue!’ This Saturday, Oct. 7, everyone is invited to the popular Fireman’s Day. By no means confirmed, local rumors hint that Wetherington may be honored with The Order of the Longleaf Pine – a prestigious award signed by the Governor of North Carolina.
