Lifelong dream comes true on Detroit Tigers baseball field
DETROIT — On July 17, 2015, at Comerica Park, the home baseball’s Detroit Tigers, an Elizabeth City man fulfilled the desire of his youth to throw out the first pitch at a home game featuring his favorite team!
Rick Durren, the General Manager of Biggs Cadillac, fulfilled a lifelong dream that has been on his bucket list for years. He had always wanted to throw out the First Pitch at a Major League game. He has been a fan of the Tigers for 50 years and grew up idolizing Al Kaline! This event was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Also attending were Rick’s wife Lynn, his daughter Melyssa Durren and her boyfriend Spencer Andrus, and his aunt Joyce Durren — who drove over from Kalamazoo, Michigan to join her nephew on this special occasion.
Durren was treated to an on field experience, attending batting practice and meeting with the players before the game. After throwing out the First Pitch, all were invited to the Tiger Club for dinner and to watch the game from a private suite. Rick commented that this was a very special experience and a dream come true.
That night, the Tigers defeated the Baltimore Orioles 7 to 3. For Rick, this was an experience that he will remember for the rest of his life.
