AURORA – This Memorial Day Weekend, there’s something for everyone in downtown Aurora.

Let’s give some much-needed credit to Aurora resident Sandi Lilley. As an active member of the all-volunteer Festival planning committee, Lilley has been busy for months spearheading a new wrinkle for this year’s festivities. In a recent e-mail to this newspaper, Lilley’s enthusiasm almost bubbled off the computer screen.

“I am so excited about the new children’s tent lineup of activities,” wrote Lilley. “When we began work on this idea, we really wanted the kids to have a fun and safe place – while their parents are right next door enjoying the Festival’s non-stop bands. Adults will enjoy the kids’ entertainment too.”

One look at the Festival schedule for Saturday, May 27 (see Page B-8 of this newspaper) reveals that Lilley expects children to enjoy the Festival Parade beginning at 11 am. Then, immediately after, she envisions hordes of youngsters heading for an area known as the Main Stage. There, one of the world’s most famous mascots – RONALD MCDONALD – will reign supreme from noon until 1 pm.

Then comes the Motorcycle Drill Team, followed by four solid hours of hi-jinks and activities in the 2017 Fossil Festival Children’s Tent. It’s a good thing the Festival comes but once per year – Lilley will likely need at least 364 days to recuperate!!

Thanks, Sandi!!
