Men’s & Women’s teams bound for Reynolds Coliseum in quest for Dual 1-A State Titles. Final win for each squad will make history!

Reynolds got a $35 million facelift prior to the 2016 basketball season. The facility, now state-of-the-art, remains one of the most storied in college basketball.

RALEIGH – This is the stuff of fairy tales. Over the past season, both squads have made big-time plays. Team leaders have stepped up, while even unlikely candidates have shown the right stuff. There have been squeakers, close games, contested calls, hours of practice, exasperated coaches, loyal fans, exciting come-from-behind finishes, with traditions always on the line. Through it all, both the men and women have demonstrated self-less 100 percent teamwork.

One of several display cases, this is by far the most popular, which houses gear from the 1983 NCAA Championship season, won by the N.C. State Wolfpack.

Now it comes down this Saturday to one more game for each of these teenage athletes, in a basketball arena like no other – venerable Reynolds Coliseum on the campus of N.C. State University.

Having abandoned its heritage, the Atlantic Coast Conference competes this weekend in some weird place called Brooklyn. That’s OK. These Pamlico County High School basketball players will proudly visit iconic Reynolds, smack dab in the middle of Tobacco Road – where the sport has reigned supreme for seven decades.

The squads will walk past a display case, which houses memorabilia from the 1983 Wolfpack NCAA Champions. These kids were not even born yet! But older fans can still remember TV footage when N.C. State coach Jim Valvano rushed onto the floor, looking for someone to hug. Yes, it all seems like a fairy tale. But make no mistake, miracles do happen – and Reynolds is the perfect place.

Hey Hurricanes! Meet a huge new ‘Tuffy,” which fills the center of the hardwood basketball court in the recently refurbished Reynolds Coliseum.
