Havelock High School Senior dies after being struck by vehicle in Newport

NEW PORT — Carteret County Deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol are investigating the death of teen after being struck by a motor vehicle approximately 3:40am near the intersection of Marietta Lane and Hwy 24 in Newport.

Antoine Marcel Godette Jr, 18, of Bogue Loop Road in Newport was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lane of Hwy 24 near Island Auto Detailing. The Greensboro resident who struck Godette and other witnesses immediately called 911 and waited for authorities to arrive.

Investigators have learned that the Havelock High School senior got off work around midnight at Wendy’s in Morehead City and began walking home. Godette was found wearing all dark clothing
and reportedly was already lying in the roadway when he was struck.


Broad & Gales Creek Fire and Rescue responded to the accident and Godette died at the scene. He was transported to Onslow Memorial Hospital where an autopsy was performed this morning.
Godette’s next of kin and Havelock High School officials have been notified.
