PAMLICO SOUND – Helicopter and MV-22 Osprey close air support training is scheduled for Marine Corps Bombing Target 11 in southern Pamlico Sound on Friday, July 13, as late as midnight. Expect gunfire near the target during this time and flight operations in the vicinity. Earlier that same day, Air Force F-15 fighters are scheduled to conduct training at Bombing Targets 9 and 11.

Air and ground training operations will be conducted at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field Atlantic, in eastern Carteret County; and at Marine Corps Outlying Landing Field – Oak Grove (located east-south-east of New Bern) from July 15-18. Expect increased helicopter, MV-22 Osprey and ground vehicle activity in those areas during this period.

Boaters should remain clear of the restricted areas surrounding Bombing Targets 9 and 11.  This is also a reminder to boaters and hunters that BT-11, commonly known as Piney Island, is a US Government restricted area. Trespassers risk serious injury or death, as well as prosecution for trespassing.
