ORIENTAL — The bridge of this waterfront community will be closed to all vehicular traffic from 3 pm until 11 pm on Saturday, June 30. Once an ideal spot for watching Croaker Festival fireworks, the elevated road has recently become the official launching pad for the festival’s annual pyrotechnics show. Please see map below for an alternative route, using Kershaw Road, to enter and exit the town.

PARADE AWARDS: Have you ever considered where the awards come from and how the entries for the Croakerfest Parade are judged? The Ladies of the Neuse of the Oriental Woman’s Club have been busy this year as they have every year creating new and original trophies for the parade. A panel of three judges watches the parade, looking for most creative, theme related, musical, colorful, or whatever they see as worthy. Winning entries receive a custom-made award to commemorate the day.

COMMUNITY CHURCH SERVICE: Sunday, July 1, at 10 a.m. churches from the Oriental area have planned a community service to celebrate the Fourth of July. The service will take advantage of a tent set up for the Croaker Festival at the town’s waterfront Lou Mac Park. Participating churches include: Oriental First Baptist, Rev. Ricky Miller, Pastor; Oriental Free Will Baptist, Rev, Grady Simpson. Pastor; Oriental United Methodist, Rev. Jimmy Weaver, Pastor; Pamlico Presbyterian Church, Rev, Adam Christiansen, Pastor; St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Father Paull, Pastor. For more information, call Grady Simpson at (252) 745-4545.
