On Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Pamlico County Sheriff’s deputies and Pamlico County EMS responded to a residence in Grantsboro, NC regarding an unresponsive female. Megan Hypes Gaylord 33, of Grantsboro was transported to Carolina East Health Systems where she was later pronounced deceased.
The resulting investigation and autopsy determined that Gaylord died as a result of fentanyl toxicity/overdose.
The investigation led to the arrest of 3 individuals related to the death of Gaylord. Matthew Paul Dunham 39, of Grantsboro, Mitchell Quinn Sadler 58, and Christina Shuck Sadler 42, also of Grantsboro were arrested and formerly charged with 1 count each of Involuntary Manslaughter on Thursday, December 8, 2022, and placed into the Pamlico County Detention Center under $150,000.00 secured bonds. All three suspects appeared in Pamlico County District Court for their first appearances Friday December 9, 2022.
