MINNESOTT BEACH – Two picture-perfect weather days arrived on schedule at Minnesott Yacht, Golf & Country Club this past weekend, which accommodated a good turnout from the membership and some amazing golf over the 36-hole tournament.
Ken Howard – who at age 70 might have opted for the Seniors Division – instead chose to compete among the club’s best in the coveted Men’s Championship Division.
As a southpaw in a bright red hat, Howard – who resembles the build and stature of golfing great Gary Player – was easy to spot as a member of Sunday’s last foursome. A 79 on Saturday, and a superb 76 on Sunday, gave Howard a five-stroke victory over his closest competitor, Mitch Kominiarek — who also finished strong with a 77 on the last day.
In the Women’s Championship Division, Mickie Campbell of Portsmouth, Va delivered an 86 on Saturday and an even better 83 on Sunday for a convincing win in the Women’s Championship Division.
