‘Dixie’ latest casualty of rampant political correctness

WINSTON-SALEM – Elected officials voted 5 to 2 Monday night to change the name of the town’s popular agricultural fair, eliminating the word ‘Dixie’ from a title first adopted in 1956. No word yet on what might happen to the Winn-Dixie chain of grocery stores; the ‘Covers Dixie like the Dew’ motto of an Atlanta newspaper; or the words of a beloved American ballad, which contains the now endangered plea “Old times there are not forgotten.”
