NEW BERN — District Attorney Scott Thomas announced that, in Craven County Superior Court this week, AARON ROBERT SUTTON, 31, of New Bern, pleaded guilty to a series of fraud crimes and was sent to prison. Senior Resident Superior Court Judge Benjamin Alford presided, and these cases were prosecuted in court by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Wareham. Rampant fraud prompts changes to Medicare

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services is readying a fraud prevention initiative that removes Social Security numbers from Medicare cards to help combat identity theft, and safeguard taxpayer dollars. The new cards will use a unique, randomly-assigned number called a Medicare Beneficiary Identifier, replacing the often targeted Social Security-based ‘Health Insurance Claim Number’ currently used on every Medicare card.
