WASHINGTON, N.C. – The Beaufort County Board of Education voted last week to relax the student dress code for the 2013-14 school year.
Pants can be any color and jeans will be allowed. Pants cannot have holes and
cannot sag or be too tight. Belts will not be required.
Shirts have not changed. Collars are still required but the shirts do not have to
be tucked in. These changes only apply to the student dress code.
A dozen models – of more than 40 who participated – are all smiles Sunday afternoon after conclusion of the hugely successful event, now in its third year. Organizers praised co-directors Ben Gaskill and Myra Blue, and a host of volunteers, for their efforts. Blue, however, singled out Gaskill – a veteran stage actor and director — as the driving force. “Without Ben’s contributions and the countless hours he spent on this, the Fashion Show could not possibly have happened,” said Blue. The six-member JazzOmine Band set the mood for each segment, playing a variety of tunes from the 1910 to 1949 era. The Delamar Center on the campus of Pamlico Community College hosted the affair. Proceeds from tickets sales benefit both the Pamlico County Heritage Center and the school’s Education Foundation.
