Airport Director – ‘Southern Region Air Carrier Manager of Year’

NEW BERN – Coastal Carolina Regional Airport Authority recently announced that Airport Director Andrew Shorter has been recognized by the Federal Aviation Administration as the Southern Region’s 2019 Air Carrier Manager of the Year during the Virtual Airports Conference held August 11 & 12.

The award goes to an airport manager who has “exhibited exceptional aviation leadership and has worked tirelessly to promote the aviation industry.” Other selection criteria include; significant accomplishments, unique displays of leadership, development initiatives, improvements in safety/security, public affairs accomplishments, and considerable cost savings and efficiencies achieved.

“Andy has created a vision for the airport that when executed surpassed our expectations and allows the airport to survive during these difficult times,” said Mr. Joe Leahy, Chairman of the Coast Carolina Regional Airport Authority

The honor was Shorter’s second significant award this year. Several months ago he was named the Airport Professional of the Year by the Southeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives.

Mr. Shorter came to Coastal Carolina Regional Airport, also known as EWN, in 2014 as Deputy Director before his promotion to Airport Director in 2016. Before joining EWN, he served a 25-year military career as a Marine Harrier pilot, where he finally retired as the Commanding Officer of Marine Aircraft Group 14 located at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
