Spotted ‘Lanternfly’ threatens agriculture

By Brayden Marsh FORSYTH COUNTY – The first Spotted Lanternfly sighting in North Carolina has happened in Forsyth County.  North Carolina Department of Agriculture reports the creature has been seen near Interstate 40 in Kernersville. Spotted Lanternflies have been a problem ever since they were first identified in 2014 in Pennsylvania. ‘Marine of the Year’ goes to Cherry Point pilot

Cherry Point USMC Maj. Cory T. Jones was honored Tuesday night in Washington, DC as ‘2022 Marine of the Year’ by the Military Times publication. The award recognizes the heroic landing of a KC-130J tanker following a mid-air collision with a F-35B. In September 2020, Jones was piloting a Super Hercules tanker during an air-to-air refueling mission when an F-35B struck his aircraft. D.A. Vows Swift Prosecution of Alleged Assailant in Murder Case

NEW BERN – District Attorney Scott Thomas released the following statement: “Defendant Dakota Wright had his felony first appearance in Craven County District Court Wednesday morning. He was advised of the pending criminal charges against him and the highest potential punishment for each charge. One person arrested with 4 felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor

On Wednesday, July 7, 2022, members of the Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division and the North Carolina SBI ICAC Task Force executed a search warrant on the home of Michael Wayne Stocks, 32, of Bayboro.  Investigators received information that Stocks was in possession of child pornography. The Board of Education voted to continue the program with an ‘opt-in’ policy. There is also the standard class that a parent must ‘opt-out’ if they don’t want their child to have sex education.
