Two South Carolina men arrested following two county chase

CARTERET COUNTY — On 07/29/2021, Carteret County Deputies arrested Joshua Raymond Cates, 24, of Aiken, SC and Devin Brian Cooper, 25, of North Augusta, SC following a two-county car chase in a stolen vehicle. At approximately 3:30pm Newport police attempted to stop the stolen vehicle from Aiken, SC which fled through the streets of Newport before traveling west on Hwy 70 into Havelock. Re-build of New Bern’s beloved Rec Center focus of FEMA visit

City officials are optimistic that a public hearing Thursday night, July 29, will present a convincing case that any reconstruction of the Stanley White Recreation Center on its original site will NOT alleviate the risk of future flooding. A FEMA study known as a Draft Environmental Assessment is expected to recommend that a comparable facility should be built on a 3.4 acre site of much higher elevation. Health officials advocate for caution after fox tests positive for rabies

CARTERET COUNTY, NC – After two fox bites, Carteret County Animal Control is encouraging the public to take precautions and avoid interacting with wildlife. The first incident occurred on the morning of Friday, July 23. Officers responded to a call around Core Creek Road, off U.S. Highway 101 near Beaufort, after a fox bit a person. That fox tested positive for rabies. Another encounter of a fox biting a person occurred Friday evening in Morehead City near a residence on Country Club Road and Country Club Court.
