General rallies new recruits!

The turnout Thursday, Oct. 21, was exceptional as retired general Kurt Ryan (a new resident) gave 125 would-be members of the Aurora Leadership Council their marching orders. The goal? Develop an ambitious ‘20-point Key Task’ strategic plan by the summer of 2022. “We hope to turn Aurora into a sparkling gem, and not an undiscovered one,” predicted Ryan.  The general had some surprise announcements up his now-civilian sleeves. State legislator Keith Kidwell reported his behind-the-scenes budget efforts have earmarked up to $35 million for economic development in Beaufort County, with…

COMMUNITY MOURNS

GRANTSBORO –  Todd Willis was a meteor. A bright, shining, spiritual, inspirational light across our constellation. In 2016, his brainchild, Neuse River Bait & Tackle, won the Chamber’s New Business of the Year. His annual fishing symposiums were massive sellouts. In June of this year, his entrepreneurial flair hit the crossroads of Pamlico County with a huge mega-store. Next door, a new eatery christened the ‘Wobbly Hog Smokehouse’ became both an instant success and Todd’s heartfelt tribute to his beloved grandfather, Lionel Willis. Along the way – no matter how busy – this remarka…

Eastern Carolina Council, Part 8:

Jockeying for Position

NEW BERN – Feeling sorry for a mega-big engineering firm – one that sports multiple offices across North Carolina and oozes with experience in negotiating contracts – is difficult.  Nevertheless, a close reading of public documents — which bear the fingerprints of Eastern Carolina Council and its then fledgling law firm of Grady Quattlebaum, PLLC — conveys the distinct impression that the Wilmington office of Withers Ravenel Engineering got jerked around during the latter part of 2020. By late summer of 2020, the three entities – Withers Ravenel, Grady Quattlebaum, and Eas…

My personal experience with Mark Robinson | Young voter meets ‘rock star’ of state’s Republican Party

By Drew Baker GRANTSBORO – What do you think of when the term “role model” pops into your mind? Could it be a family member, a president, or a celebrity?  When I think of the term “role model,” a man with the title of North Carolina’s 35th Lieutenant Governor floods my mind. On Oct. 8, 2021, I had the greatest privilege to attend one of Mark Robinson’s speeches at the 11th Annual Turkey Dinner of the Pamlico County Republican Party. The amount of enthusiasm, passion, and patriotism portrayed by Lt. Governor Robinson was astounding. One main point that caught my attention was how Lt. Governor Robins…

Law of Unintended Consequences! Some vaxxed become unwitting spreaders

Analysis from:  Geert Vanden Bossche / Janci Lindsay / S.V. Subramanian & Akhil Kumar / Rand Paul One of the gutsiest scientists during 2021 has been an independent virologist and vaccine expert, Geert Vanden Bossche (DVM & PhD) who was formerly employed by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. In early March of this year (which seems like eons ago) an alert reader sent me the doctor’s startling six-page entreaty, titled “Open letter to all authorities, scientists and experts around the world.”  That was seven months ago! I remember thinking “Wow! If any of this guy’s prediction…

HIGHER UTILITY BILLS LOOM IF LAW PASSES

Current of Gulf Stream off coast of NC is a better energy solution! RALEIGH – House Bill 951, which is pending in the General Assembly, is a terrible bill and should be put out of its misery. Here are my reasons: There is a provision in the bill for demand side control. This means that in the winter when it gets really cold, the demand for electricity will shoot up and power companies like Tideland EMC will selectively shut down power to homes and businesses to keep “The Grid” from failing. Is this any way to treat the citizens of North Carolina? I think NOT! Not too long ago the Green party i…
