Carteret County Identifies First Case of COVID-19

BEAUFORT – The first case of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) has been confirmed in Carteret County. The individual who tested positive for COVID-19 recently returned from international travel and began showing symptoms after returning to North Carolina. This individual was tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday, March 18 and confirmation of a positive COVID-19 test result was received at the Carteret County Health Department on Friday, March 20 from the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health. Carteret County Sheriff’s Office enacts temporary changes in operating procedures to mitigate possible exposure to COVID-19

CARTERET COUNTY, NC – In response to the growing concerns over exposure to COVID-19 (coronavirus), the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office is making the following changes in operating procedures to reduce the risk of exposure to citizens and our employees. Due to the space limitations in our jail visitation area and the difficulty of preventing the transmission of the COVID-19 virus from one visitor to the next visitor occupying this space, we are suspending inmate visitation at the jail.
