Craven County is declaring a State of Emergency in response to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) effective on Tuesday, March 17, 2020. “Declaring a State of Emergency means we are opening the door for federal and state resources and our ability to acquire them, shall we need them. This State of Emergency does not include other restrictions at this time. Escaped inmate captured

On 03/17/2020 just after 7:00 am Beaufort Police surrounded escaped inmate Ronnie Morris walking on Mulberry Street near the old Beaufort Elementary School. Morris was recognized by a citizen as matching the wanted photo issued last night after being seen in the 300 block of Live Oak Street. Beaufort Police took Morris into custody without further incident. Morris was originally taken into custody on 03/11/2020 for parole violations and held without bond.
