Another Disappointing Day in DC — Nation deserves better protections for lands, environment, health, wealth

By Rick Happ | News Openion WASHINGTON, D.C. – April 23, 2019 is another disappointing day regarding our Federal Government. What happened Tuesday is that another swamp creature, David Bernhardt, was sworn in as Secretary of the Interior. Mr. Bernhardt is a former lobbyist for the oil and agribusiness industries. Mr. Trump’s first Interior Secretary, Ryan Zinke, and his first Environmental Protection Agency Administrator, Scott Pruitt, both resigned last year amid allegations of ethics misconduct. The people of this country deserve better protections to our lands and our environmen…

Fallout begins from recent Board of Health shenanigans

BAYBORO – County officials quietly confirmed this week that a key staffer within the Pamlico County Health Department – the person charged with inspecting septic tanks and granting approvals – may resign effective April 30. In her post as an Environmental Health Specialist, Melanie Campen has extensive experience and certifications. Should Campen resign, her hard-to-replicate credentials will likely put the Health Department behind the 8-ball when home builders and developers apply for on-site wastewater discharge permits. In fact, septic installers fear backlogs and waiting li…
